PINE LABORATORIES

DESCRIPTION Pine Laboratories are ran by a man named Professor Pine. More about him can be read on his profile; link. He is a kind, friendly and energetic person, contrasted by his calmer Noctowl-dæmon Telepa. There is an alarm on his watch triggered by the doors opening so he will usually rush from his work to greet a new trainer. However, sometimes he is too busy and one of his assistants will help the visitor instead. In the case of a new trainer, he will normally at least put whatever he is doing on hold to sort out their license, but occasionally the assistants must do that as well. They are Xeno, a tall gangly young man with a Natu-dæmon called Fiona; Harriet, a short peppy girl with a Pachirisu-dæmon called George; and Melinda, a likeable, generous woman with a thick accent and a Chatot-dæmon called Oscar. The laboratories themselves are relatively new. Large glass windows make the building shine in sunlight, filling it with warm light and making it modern and welcoming. The only room most people see is the large reception, a huge room with comfy sofas, bookshelves and posters galore. It opens straight onto the acres of land where the labs keep Pokémon stored by trainers through the PC system. There is no receptionist, as the lab can't really afford one and sees no real need as anyone contacting them usually needs to speak to Professor Pine anyway. Many locked doors lead off to all the different parts of the labs, including the large nursery where young starter Pokémon are kept before they get a trainer. A special key card is needed to unlock all of these, so it's hard to steal anything. Security is quite high. While anyone can walk through the automatic doors to pay them a visit, everything is controlled by access cards and closely monitored by security cameras. This is to both protect the Pokémon trainers have trusted the Professor to look after and to prevent anyone getting in to mess up delicate experiments or steal ideas or potentially dangerous chemicals. Pine Laboratories employ a few people besides Professor Pine and his three assistants. This includes a cleaner, security guard and half a dozen or so people to take care of the Pokémon. The Professor's own Pokémon are very strong and do a lot to help as well, protecting and looking after the lab and Pokémon, which saves costs so more money can be spent on experiments. These are mainly looking into Pokémon development, but there are also a few more chemical-based experiments going on involving enzymes or even genetics which can back up and help advance their main field of research. HISTORY Pine Laboratory's past is a short one, since it has only been around for two years. It took a little over a year to build, and was named after the first Professor to run the building, Professor Pine. He was recommended for the post by his old university and the Pokémon League, and the government agreed to open up the research facility as it was deemed very useful to improving the lives of people who worked with Pokémon, the only condition being that it also gave out starter Pokémon. It was smooth sailing from there, the large amount of land available and unwanted by anyone else. Since opening, Pine Laboratories have thrived. Many people have received their first Pokémon from the place, and a good few papers have been produced by their research team. It is an ideal place for postgrads and doctorate students to learn more. Professor Pine also teaches at the University of Ellsport, the laboratory improving its reputation for biology and ecology. STARTERS Every month, Pine Laboratory receives a shipment of starter Pokémon. Each trainer may request to see up to three of these. They may also ask to see up to three Pokémon of up to three different types of their choice, which will then be randomly generated. Rarity doesn't matter in the lab, so you are just as likely to get an ultra rare Pokémon as you are a very common one. There is a normal chance (5%) of getting a shiny starter, although if your profile and/or posts are of particularly good quality (not necessarily quantity!) this chance may improve.
