GENERAL
Name: Jaska Vorae
Age: 25
Birthday: October 14
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Homosexual
Species: Human
Occupation: ex-military (Recon & Scouting), about to attempt being a Trainer.
APPEARANCE
The first thing that comes to mind when one sees Jaska is how small he is. Everything about him is delicate and deceptively frail. He's rather quite short, barely coming in at 5'5". His build is very slight, his shoulders just being wide enough to give some suggestion of his gender, but it's not much. He possess equally delicate features with dark, almond shaped eyes, long eyelashes and soft-looking bowed lips, many are not quite sure what to address him as upon first meeting. Jaska rarely takes offense, and seems to find great amusement in people's fumbling, taking his time before informing them.
Androgyny aside, Jaska got something of a genetic jackpot when it came to his appearance. Both of his parents were fairly dark skinned, but also dark-haired. However, on his mother's side, his grandfather had striking golden hair, that Jaska has to some extent inherited. It is wildly curly, and incredibly soft, the color something like wheat-- it's not so much his grandfather's saturated hue, but it has it's own beauty about it... which Jaska only seems to half appreciate. He hates cutting his hair on the account of when it's short, it's actually more unmanageable, and not only curls more but incessantly tries to get in his face. He usually then attempted to keep it long enough to at least pull into a ponytail. With his resignment from the military, he's allowed it to grow a bit longer than usual. However, he never seems to brush it... ever. He's given up trying to tame his wildly curly hair, and usually does his best to just keep it out of his eyes.
Despite possessing what should have been a pretty face, Jaska clearly has seen some violence. His right eye is completely missing, which he covers with a large patch, which also hides a good deal of the quite disfiguring scarring. He can't actually cover it all, so there's still quite a few old wounds still showing. He's also got quite a few smaller scars from his time on duty, not all from fighting and training-- his job had him often traversing rocky and dangerous terrain, so a few of those are just from nature taking its toll. Those he doesn't mind much.
For clothing, he prefers things that don't restrict his movement much. His grandmother teases him that he looks like a hobo more than an officer on some days, but he mostly ignores her. He's not too picky on colors, except that he hates brown. You'll never see him wear it.
PERSONALITY
Jaska's a typically softspoken person. In most situations he has a sort of icy calm that's nearly unshakeable-- and it's not pleasant for anyone when that calm snaps. However, in most dangerous situations he is the person you want to have around. When confronted with peril, he'll do his best when others are around to make sure that they get out alright. However, Jaska's not a terribly brave person. When confronted with a fight, he'll run before he'll fight back, or try to talk the other person down rather than scare them off. Unfortunately, this means sometimes that in a situation where a little backbone would've spared him, Jaska ends up with the short end of the stick. Because of Jaska's aversion to violence, he is often called a "fair weather friend" by those who know him. If he knows someone will be upset, he'll either try to avoid them or placate them into calming down. Luckily for him, his gentle way with words usually makes the latter pretty easy.
This sort of personality works pretty well for a reconnaissance type however-- because others depended on his information, Jaska would always get the job done, and yet would not rush brashly into a dangerous situation. He would much rather gather information and wait until the opportune moment than cause a fight then and there. He would not underestimate a threat, and always took the time to ensure his information was correct. This meticulousness extends into his more mundane life.
He's notoriously neat, everything in his living space has a proper place. He dislikes disorder and may become agitated if things are cluttered or unorganized. It's important to him to be able to see everything and know where it is.This also means when cooking or cleaning, Jaska is always very precise and clean. Everything is quite sanitary in his grandmother's house now that he's back home. She doesn't mind his fussing or need for neatness at all, and at least makes some attempts to keep things in a state of organization even when he's not at home.
Jaska rarely raises his voice, even when angered. In fact, he seems to get very nervous when people raise their voices in anger. It's a miracle he made it through basic training at all, but through sheer willpower he did, though not without a few near-breakdowns. Despite learning that yelling doesn't always come before violence, he still doesn't like it at all, and views loud people with distaste. When he's angry, rather than raising his voice, he tends to get quieter and quieter. A good way of judging Jaska's mood is how many words he says-- a curt, 'hello' for a greeting means he really doesn't want to talk to you. Really the only time he might yell is if he's upset or scared.
Once Jaska reaches the yelling point in fear though is when things get messy. Despite having a rather stable life after early childhood, Jaska responds poorly to prolonged violence. While he'll cower away from most brutality, if he's pushed into a corner and in a lot of pain, he'll act as a cornered animal might, fighting tooth and law until whatever hurt him isn't capable of it anymore. He fully well remembers what he does, and in the few times he's been pushed that far, has learned that even those around him agree that he was only defending himself- he always gives plenty of chances prior for the other party to stop.
HISTORY
Unfortunately for Jaska, his bad childhood was as a result of his mother's own terrible choices rather than being of anything he could control. His mother left home quite young with a boy she'd fallen in love with. While they both loved each other very much, Jaska's mother was the type who always wanted bigger, better things regardless of the cost. When he was very young, she took him and left his father for another man.
From that point onwards, his mother rarely settled with anyone for longer than a year. Some of them were genuinely good people who really did love him and his mother. Others were not. Between the constant moving around and changing of father figures, Jaska never got attached to any of his parents, or siblings. Of all of them, when she left, his mother only ever took Jaska with her. He eventually grew wary and skittish around "alpha male" types his mother seemed to favor in his last years with her, types who favored harsh punishment and looked down on Jaska for his more gentle-hearted temprament. During these years, Halla was a constant friend and almost parental-figure to him, despite both their young ages. She always soothed his fears and helped him pretty much learn to live on his own. The two usually stayed outside the whole day, often straying far from home. By 14, Halla seemed to be settling towards either Espeon or Sylveon, rarely seen in anything outside of those forms.
At 15 however, his mother's tendency of breaking hearts and making off with fortunes finally caught up with her. In the middle of the night, a lord she'd run off from and a good number of cronies stormed into their house, attacking not only his mother but the other children. They killed that husband immediately. However at that point Jaska's mother trained a gun on her ex, for the moment the two of them at a draw. He threatened to kill her children, but the woman would not budge, valuing her own life and comfort over anyone else's. He went to go make good on his threat, reaching for Jaska who he knew was her favorite child.
Already terrified and having been dragged quite roughly from bed, Jaska was further disoriented by Halla being held by the lord's larger skarmory. When a new stranger reached for him, something that had been long bottled up inside the boy snapped. He lashed out as Halla shifted a final time, the black blade of an absol lashing her captor. It hurt the mechanical pokemon enough to get it to let her go, but the bird quickly retaliated, vicious clawing and pecking at the smaller Halla's face. Also enraged, the man lashed out, catching the young boy on the side of his face even as his daemon ripped at Halla. Chaos erupted from there, gunshots echoing through the house. Desperation fuelled Jaska, but he had no chance against his larger and stronger foe. Luckily for him, the crime had not gone unnoticed.
The police arrived to one of the crooks and the youngest child dead, his mother bleeding out from a gunshot to the stomach, and the assailant still trying to kill Jaska. The law overpowered the criminals, though Jaska and his daemon were both quite horribly injured. The man's initial retaliation cost Jaska his eye, and Halla had lost the horn on her head to the Skarmory's hard skin. After an investigation, the man, despite his social status was thrown into jail. When the mother's crimes were also discovered, she too was put into prison, and her children either officially given to their fathers or given to the state. Because Jaska never knew his father's name and was told his mother's family were all dead, he was placed under the care of the government.
The next years of his life was actually very peaceful. He was raised in a boarding-school like environment with other peers. He always was able to return to the same bed and room, and there was always enough to eat. Bullying and the like was not tolerated at all, so despite his injuries, Jaska was rarely teased. He was young, and luckily healed up rather fast, the bones of his face mostly keeping their proper shape thanks to proper medical attention and the good food and sleep he was finally getting. However, the rougher years of his life were likely what ended up stunting his growth-- while he lost the sickly-skinny appearance he'd once had, Jaska would never grow much taller.
Jaska seemed to heal physically very well, and showed most signs of being well adjusted to his new life. The only signs that his trial had left him more mentally scarred than he let on were his need for order, and.. Halla's absolute silence. Since protecting him from the Skarmory, Halla has said very few words to her charge. He can count on one hand the number of times she's spoken to him in those ten years. She stays as close as ever, always keeping a watchful eye on him, but the Absol rarely speaks. This unfortunately means that Jaska does not have the ability to understand what other pokemon are saying. Though she rarely speaks to him, the two have a pretty strong sense of each other's emotions and feelings almost as though to compensate for it. Halla really doesn't have to speak, as Jaska usually knows what she wants. Usually.
Having been saved by law enforcement, Jaska held them and other protectors in high regard. At 18, as soon as he was old enough, he enlisted in the army. Though his size and eye put him at a severe disadvantage, his past of travelling around served him well. He knew many of the cultural differences just within Enera itself, as well as familiarity with some of the other countries. This coupled with the nature of his daemon eventually landed him a job as a scout. Being small meant he was not easily spotted, and his careful, quiet nature made him very good at scouting out new territories whenever there was a conflict. He was often given a pokemon or two and sent out to draw maps or see if areas were hostile. Though Halla had lost her horn, the two had a keen sense of when something was about to go south. This gut feeling has served him well-- he never knows things far in advance, but he's easily able to pick up from Halla if something truly horrible is about to happen.
Finally after 6 years, Jaska did begin to grow tired. He realized that he needed to move on. He received permission to resign rather quickly as he'd already been serving for a few years, and things were pretty quiet. One of his superior officers did some digging upon hearing Jaska apparently had no home to return to, and eventually found that his mother's mother was in fact, still alive, despite what his own mother had told him. He wasn't sure what to expect, seeing as they'd never met and that his mother had run from home so many years ago. However, his grandmother, Selar, was just glad that he'd lived, and welcomed him home with open arms.
He's spent a few months resting at her home, doing odd jobs around the town, but is beginning to grow restless again. He missed spending time with pokemon most of all-- even if they hadn't been his, it had been enjoyable to be around them during his job. He's finally decided to make his way to Ellsport to start a team. He's not sure if he wants to go for championship or not, he'd probably be more content to wander with his group and see what else the world has to offer.halla
GENERAL
Name: Halla
Alias: none
Gender: Female
Form (if settled): Absol
Age Settled: 15
Views on Form(s): How Halla feels about their form, no-one really knows. Jaska was surprised and still has aprehension about it. He knows the Absol is a stormcrow, and obviously wonders what that reflects upon him.
APPEARANCE
Halla would more or less be your standard absol. She's got long, slender legs and a deepchested body. Her fur is white and thick, as absol typically are found in the mountains. Her face, claws and tail are black. What's unusual is how beat up Halla is-- she's got scars all over her, particularly on her face and legs. Most of it is from fighting the skarmory, but not all of it. She's also missing the horn on her head-- it was irreparably damaged when she fought against the skarmory's hard metal armor, and it was considered far kinder to remove it than allow it to cause her and Jaska any pain.
PERSONALITY
Halla is, first and foremost, exceptionally quiet. She rarely speaks to Jaska, and never to strangers.
However, Halla's actions show many things about her. Firstly is that she loves Jaska very, very much. She rarely leaves his side, almost always within reach of him. She sleeps on his bed every night, keeping close in case he has nightmares. When he was still out in the army, and they were often by themselves or with very few pokemon, she would stay up for long periods of time to keep watch over him as he slept. She pushes him to push himself, however, knowing his tendency to shrink away from a challenge. Halla knows his limits but also knows he needs to grow and try new things or else he'll become depressed.
Around others, Halla is standoffish, pretty much ignoring them. It takes her a while to warm up to people.
