ROUTE TWO

CLIMATE Route Two is a warm place, although the trees keep it from getting too warm. This is very welcome in the scorching heat of summer. Almost entirely in the shade, it can still get unpleasantly hot and humid in the summer. During the rest of the year, it's fairly warm. Temperatures occasionally drop. During the night, it gets a good deal colder, the woods seeing many crisp cold mornings to go with the warm evenings. It quickly warms once the sun has been in the sky for an hour or so. Wind often blows from somewhere between the south and the east. All the undergrowth and tree trunks break such breezes, however. The upper branches can still be seen to shake, knocking a few leaves down. These winds occur throughout the year, largely bringing warm air with few clouds. Rain isn't so common this far south. Even in the dead of winter, snow is practically unthinkable. If you're looking for beautiful snowy winter forests, you'd best try the Old Forest, because here in winter the trees just mostly lose their leaves and stand shivering in the wind. Wild Pokémon are easier to spot. The air can still be rather humid in winter, creating thin mists that hang around the floor of the woods every morning from late autumn to early spring. They dissipate by midday each day. DESCRIPTION Route Two is a pretty flat route, not that it's easy to see far with all the trees in the way. As woodland goes, it's not that harsh on travelers. Trees do not grow densely, but still closely enough together to grant this place the category of a forest or wood without a doubt. There is no single clear path through it. A main one does exist, used many years ago to travel between Aniford and Ellsport, but it's little more than a gap in the undergrowth. This path is the widest as carts used to use it. This also makes it a convoluted route through the woods, as it winds through all the widest gaps between trees and twists away from more direct paths through narrowly spaces trees. Most trainer prefer to pick their way along one of the several worn paths, simply because otherwise it's easy to get lost with the end of the route hidden from sight by all the trees. The undergrowth provides a deterrent from straying off the path, too. Largely consisting of big leafy ferns and small bushy plants that can be beaten down easily by trampling feet, hidden alongside just about every other plant are stinging nettles. Admittedly there are worse things, but the nettles can grow tall enough to reach hands and bared arms as well as exposed legs. Their stings are irritating and itchy, although not too painful. Dock leaves grow here and there. It's still best to bring some kind of cream if you want to go exploring. Brambles grow chaotically in thick bushes, easy to spot. There are a few spiky plants, but no holly due to the warm climate. Wild flowers add colour to the sea of green and brown. They grow in large patches all over the place, with all manner of species present. Ivy clings to many of the trees. All the plants are fairly well accustomed to dry weather but humid air. Few secrete poisons so are safe to touch, but several - especially any fungus or insects you might see - are poisonous to eat. The insects may bite and sting as well, so be careful. They're most active at night. Ponds can be found here and there. It's not advisable to drink from or swim in them. Most are too small to accommodate a human anyway. Many are green with algae, and swarm with all sorts of flying insects as they provide good breeding grounds for them. Some are clean, and Pokémon will gather at these to drink, but there isn't enough water to support Water type Pokémon. Little fish and small amphibians can be found in them. Aside from these ponds, other breaks in the the trees can be found in numerous clearings. The sky is clearly visible from these. While no shelter is provided by tree branches, these are popular spots for camping as they're large enough for a few tents to be pitched next to each other. Fewer of the small wild Pokémon will try stealing from trainers here as they hate being out in the open. These are also the places it's best to have a campfire, as the smoke can leave through the gap in the forest roof rather than lingering around the group or filling the lungs of, and so potentially provoking, anything high up in the trees. Great care should be taken with a fire since on this route any campfire is surrounded by highly flammable dry wood and leaves. Always surround them with stones to keep from setting the leaf-strewn ground on fire. HISTORY History

WILD POKÉMON

AVERAGE LEVEL: 6-10 FRIENDLINESS: Varies. Many are quite shy and like to hide in trees, but others are curious or indifferent to humans so don't bother hiding. It's rare to find any Pokémon that are especially aggressive. GENERAL INFORMATION: The trees and undergrowth provide good cover for Pokémon, so many can be found hiding there. Just as well, you shouldn't need to try too hard to spot wild Pokémon, as many lounge in trees without bothering to hide. As with Route One, the Pokémon here are generally quite young and weak. This can make some timid, others curious. Many are just a bit lazy.
